Marathon FAQ

Does the Bank of America Chicago Marathon registration fee count towards my fundraising?

No, the runner registration fees will be paid for by Franciscan Outreach. So team members may focus their energy on fundraising efforts.

Do I get fundraising tools?

Many participants are surprised by how easy it is to meet and even surpass their goal. We’ve created a user-friendly online fundraising tool to help you reach your goal. You‘ll receive a personal web page when you  officially register with Team Steps For Change as well as sample letters to send out to family and friends.

Is there a deadline for meeting my fundraising minimum?

Yes. Fundraising minimums must be met by December 1st, 2014, or the participant’s credit card will be charged for the difference. We understand that this may be the most money you have ever attempted to raise and you may feel unsure about whether you’ll be able to do it. We have found that if you follow the recommended guidelines and use the materials provided, you’ll be much more successful than you expected! Contact Julie at julie@franoutreach for fundraising tools and tips to help you reach your goal.

When is the Bank of America Marathon?

The Bank of America Marathon is on October 12th, 2014.

How do I register to be a part of Franciscan Outreach’s Team Steps for Change for the Chicago Marathon?

All runners must complete the Team Steps For Change registration and commitment form. After you submit the forms, the Team will approve you and advise you of the next steps.

I’ve never finished a marathon before. Can I do it?

Yes, you can! Team Steps For Change provides a supportive environment for new runners and we have a staff member dedicated to your needs.

How much time does it take to train for a marathon?

How much time you train is completely up to you. The training resources we provide can help you determine the best time commitment for your fitness level. If you are a novice, most coaches will recommend you begin training 16 to 18 weeks before a full marathon.

I have never raised funds before. How hard is it?

Many participants are surprised by how easy it is to meet and even surpass their goal. Most likely you are joining the Team Steps For Change because you or someone you know has a connection to Franciscan Outreach. Your story is an inspirational way to spread awareness and raise funds for the Team. We have created a user-friendly online fundraising tool to make it easy for you to share your story and reach your goal.
