Franciscan Outreach is recruiting new members for our board of directors. We are trying to develop a pool of applicants so that we may select candidates to fill gaps in the present composition of the board. We are wondering if you know anyone whom you would recommend.
The board is responsible for the overall policy of the organization, overseeing the executive director, and making major programmatic decisions. The board has 21 seats, each having a term of three years that expires on a rotating basis. The board meets four times per year. Each board member is expected to attend the board meetings and serve on at least one committee.
We are looking for individuals who …
· are interested in guiding Franciscan Outreach in helping the homeless and marginalized
· are willing to give careful consideration to the issues presented at board meetings
· are ready to learn about the organization so as to contribute to good decision making
· have one or more skills that complement the current mix of skills on the board
· can make a financial contribution to the organization commensurate with their means
· are able to leverage contacts in the community to increase support for our programs.
We are looking for more candidates than applicants because we want to be strategic about board composition. We also don’t want anyone to feel that they must serve on the board just because they have begun the process of learning more about it.
I or a member of our board nominating committee will call you within a few days to see if you or anyone you know might be interested. The next step would be to broaden their experience of Franciscan Outreach by having a tour, volunteering in our programs, meeting with me and a board member about the organization, and other activities that round out their experience with Franciscan Outreach.
